Threshold Limit Value: The airborne concentration of a substance at which it is believed nearly all workers may be repeatedly exposed day after day without adverse effect. TLV’s are recommended limits established by the ACGIH. Unless otherwise designated, the TLV represents a time-weighted average.

TRU Waste
Transuranic Radioactive Waste: The term “transuranic” is derived from "trans", meaning beyond, and "uranic", meaning uranium. TRU waste, which contains manmade elements heavier than uranium (and therefore “beyond uranium” on the periodic chart) is produced during nuclear fuel assembly, nuclear weapons research, productions, and cleanup and as a result of reprocessing spent nuclear fuels. The waste generally consists of protective clothing, tools, glassware and equipment contaminated with radioactive materials. TRU waste consists of materials containing alpha-emitting radio-isotopes, with half-lives greater than twenty years and atomic numbers greater than 92, in concentrations greater than 100 nanocuries per gram of waste.
