Hazardous Air Pollutant: Any pollutant listed in
or pursuant to Section 112(b) of the CAA.

HASP

Health and Safety Plan

Hazard Class/Division

A DOT team which describes the category assigned
to a hazardous material corresponding to one of nine different hazard
characteristics. The Hazard Class/Division corresponding to a specific proper
shipping name is found in Column 3 of the Hazardous Material Table.

Hazardous Chemical

OSHA term for a chemical with a physical or
health hazard to workers.

Hazardous Material

DOT term in HMTA for materials that pose a
danger in transportation. According to DOT: “A substance or material, including
a hazardous substance, hazardous waste, marine pollutant or elevated
temperature material which has been determined by the Secretary of
Transportation to be capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety
and property when transported in commerce and which as been so designated.”

Hazardous Materials Table

A list of Hazardous Materials found in 49 CFR
172.101 which contain shipping information including the proper shipping name,
hazard class, identification number and packing group. DOT term in HMTA.

Hazardous Substance

CERCLA term defined in 40 CFR 302; a listed
chemical in amount equal to RQ. According to DOT: “A material, including its
mixtures and solutions that: (1) is listed in Appendix A to 172.101, Hazardous
Materials Table, (2) is in a quantity in one package which equals or exceeds
the reportable quantity (RQ) listed in Appendix A to the Hazardous Materials
Table; and (3) when the mixture or solution is in a concentration by weight
corresponding to the RQ of the material.

Hazardous Waste

RCRA term defined in 40 CFR 260 & 261: A
solid waste which is either “Listed” or has found to have a “Characteristic”
(ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity or toxicity) which causes it to be
hazardous. Statutory: Any solid, liquid, gas or combination of wastes, which
because of its chemical or infectious characteristics, may pose a threat to
human health or the Environment.

HAZCOM

Hazard Communication Standard (also known as
Worker Right to Know) 29 CFR 1910.1200.

HAZMAT Employee

Anyone who is employed by a HAZMAT employer, and
who directly affects hazardous material transportation safely. The term
includes anyone who: (1) loads, unloads or handles hazardous materials, (2)
manufactures or tests HAZMAT packaging, (3) prepares HAZMAT for transportation,
(4) is responsible for transportation safety, or (4) operates a vehicle used to
transport hazardous materials.

HAZMAT Employer

A person who used one or more of its employees
to transport hazardous materials in commerce.

HAZWOPER

Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency
Response (29 CFR 1910.120).
